The soils in this region belongs to Red Yellow Podzolic soil with weakly developed laterite and the soil reaction usually moderately to strongly acidic with a definite trend towards increasing acidity with the increasing rainfall. The organic matter and Nitrogen status is low to medium. Phosphate and Potassium status is usually low, where the parent rock is rich in potash feldspar, the potassium status is fairly good. The calcium and Magnesium supplies in these soils are quite low. Certain orchard crops and vegetables would require application of these elements in the form of ground dolomitic lime stone. A good cation exchange capacity of these soils includes a satisfactory retention of chemical fertilizers even under the high rainfall condition. The texture and drainage is moderately good. The soils where the laterite has been exposed and consequently hardened root penetration and infiltration of water is severely restricted.
